BSNL router config challenges my engineer's mind

I normally love the BSNL broadband for its speed and service specially in rural areas where we don't have tata and airtel. But I hate their engineers and their lack of knowledge about their own stuff. Firstly they always sell these chinese routers which and them make the settings so difficult for end user that you have to call them and beg for support when things go wrong.
Had a similar experience recently at my in-laws place in Nasik. They recently got BSNL broadband with a nice latest router that had all the functionality including a USB port to share internet from a USB data card ( man i simply miss this in my current D-Link) .Next my Father-in-law got a brand new andriod phone for himself on my suggestion and I was suddenly in a fix when I was supposed to explain the benefits of an andriod phone  over his simple-to-use earlier phone. Now i can ramble a lot about WIFI and GPS and 3G and so on. But without a wireless connection the phone was nothing but a expensive partially functional piece of crap for someone who is getting to know smartphones for the first time.

As always the engineer in me volunteered and I set on the quest to to have the current BSNL broadband working over Wireless. As I mentioned earlier that neglect BSNL guys have for technology was evident from the way they had configured the router to allow only access using a computer connected to the .
With much tweaking and lot of reading was able to figure out that needed to add a ATM and bridge it . The links below were helpful . But even after doing that it dint work and I spent the whole day playing with the settings. Blew up the existing internet that was working fine in the process ( there are always conditions apply * to an engineer's troubleshooting skills :)    .... we may fix it or damage it permanently ) .

With no internet to read further how to fix this and my prestige at stake, I explored every possible setting. Finally found that the wireless settings are set in such a manner that it doesn't allow any device to connect to the internet.Disabled that and we finally had "INTERNET" .  Funnily remind me of movie Swades where Shahrukh Khan puts everything in to generate electricity and finally when he succeeds , an old lady in a hut looks at the bulb ans says "BIIJALEEEEEE"

To cut the long story short , we finally managed to show my Father-in-law a whole new world of productivity and fun apps has been opened to him using the android market. Google maps is a special favorite in such situation as everyone likes to zoom in a look at your own house or office :) . And we played angry birds till late in the evening. Thanks to the blogs and forums which were life savers . Hence I thought I would add my bit to the world of information by listing all the links that i found from tedious Google searches.
